Other things rocking my world - 02/28/2007
If you haven't read anything by Larry Brown yet, I suggest you do it. I read his book "Fay" in one sitting! He has a eye for sleaze like Bukowski, but sits comfortably in the grand Southern Tradition as well. He died a couple of years ago, and I unfortunately just picked up on him this year. I've also read "Joe" and "The Rabbit Factory", and enjoyed them also.
Why "Fay" has not been made into a movie yet, I have no earthly idea. It's a perfect antidote to the paucity of original ideas coming out of the movie industry these days.
I have also been freaking out on the latest Tom Waits record. I saw a review that stated he isn't breaking any new ground, but with songs like these, who needs new ground? If you're mining a rich seam of coal, you just don't pick up and leave it and search for somewhere else to dig do you?
