"...Cool And Relatively New: I was fortunate enough to receive some recordings from under-the-radar Athens band Altruizine this past week while stopping by the blink-and-you-missed-it Melted Men double-LP release show at the X-Ray Café. Altruizine is composed of Rob Fluhr (bass, percussion, vocals, harmonica, mbira), Leslie Grove (violin, synthesizer, bass, percussion) and Rife Thompson (saxophone, synthesizer, guitar, percussion). If it's possible to construct sounds while simultaneously deconstructing them, then that's what these guys do. There are lots of elements present in their music, and although they incorporate the jazz aesthetic of Rahssan Roland Kirk and Eric Dolphy, they also inhabit a certain loose-sense rock-music sensibility in the vein of Faust and Coil. It's just very cool stuff. ..."
